Built around 1640, the Capt. Thomas Willett House at 27 Wapping Road is (probably) one of the oldest New England. If you’re moving in or out of an old house like this one, you should really invest in a split box spring for your bed. Photo Credit: See page for author, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons

Kingston: History and Natural Beauty

Kingston’s tranquil Jones River (named for the man who captained the Mayflower) runs from Silver Lake and drains into Kingston Bay. Jones River Landing, a recreational access point for boaters, claims to be “the oldest continually operating boat yard in the country.” Perhaps, back in the day ye olde Kingston Moving Company would arrive by boat? Of course, we have not been able to verify the claim. Yet. But if you’re a local historian with more facts about Kingston or the South Shore, please reach out! Additional points if you’re moving and need a quote for that — it is our specialty, after all.

As you can see from Kingston’s famous Loring Street mile marker, the town is situated well south of the busy metropolis of Boston. But at only 5 miles from Plymouth, Kingston has access to any conveniences you might need. Photo Credit: Niranjan Arminius, CC BY-SA 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Kingston — It’s not just for moving IN

Of course, people move out of Kingston as well. For example, early colonist Thomas Willett left Kingston to become the first Mayor of New York. That was back in 1665. Then 1667, he double-dipped, becoming the third Mayor in addition to the first. So there you have it. The first mayor of New York was actually from New England and may have hired Kingston Movers to go to the big apple. Do people still have dinner parties? If so, you’re welcome.
