Parking and Moving Permits in Back Bay

Parking is one of the most important parts of planning a Back Bay move.

Commonwealth Avenue, Beacon Street, Marlborough Street and Newbury Street are heavily traveled and often lined with parked vehicles. Even when a legal space appears available during a walkthrough, there is no guarantee that it will remain open on moving day.

A truck parked far from the entrance creates a long carry. Long carries increase moving time because every box and piece of furniture must travel a greater distance between the building and the truck.

Boston moving permits and posted tow-zone signs are strongly recommended for many Back Bay moves. The purpose of the permit is to reserve enough curb space for the moving truck near the building.

Newbury Street can be especially difficult because of businesses, deliveries, pedestrians and limited curb space. Moves involving Newbury Street should be planned carefully, with parking and building access confirmed well in advance.

Even a short move within Back Bay can take significant time when both locations involve stairs, long carries or restricted parking.

Loading Docks, Elevators and Certificates of Insurance

Newer and larger Back Bay buildings may offer loading docks or service entrances. These features can make a move easier, but only when they are properly reserved.

Some loading docks have strict arrival times. Others may be shared with deliveries, contractors or another moving company. Service elevators may require protective pads or an attendant.

4 movers with a 26-foot truck: $299 per hour plus travel

A two-hour minimum applies. Time beyond the minimum is billed in 15-minute increments.

The travel fee covers the crew’s travel from our office to the first location and the return from the final location. Moving time begins when the crew starts work at the first address and continues through travel between locations, unloading and final furniture placement.

The hourly rate includes:

Larger crews, larger trucks and multiple-truck moves are available when needed.

Choosing the Right Crew Size
