Cape Cod Movers Connecting Boston and the Cape

Somerville movers

Safe Responsible Movers provides professional moving services between Cape Cod, Boston, Greater Boston and communities throughout Massachusetts. We handle moves from Boston to the Cape, moves from the Cape back to the Boston area, relocations between Cape Cod towns and moves between Cape Cod and other Massachusetts destinations.

Moving between Greater Boston and Cape Cod requires more than loading a truck and following the GPS. Bridge traffic, long travel times, Route 6 congestion, private roads, long driveways and seasonal scheduling can all affect the crew, truck and moving plan.

We are a Boston-based Massachusetts moving company, not a Cape Cod company pretending to have a local warehouse or office that does not exist. Our strength is planning and completing moves that connect Cape Cod with the rest of Massachusetts.

Safe Responsible Movers has served Massachusetts customers since 2008. We are fully licensed and insured, hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and have earned five-star ratings on Google and Yelp. Our company has also been recognized by Boston Magazine, Boston.com, WGBH, Banker & Tradesman and The Improper Bostonian.

Cape Cod Moving Services from an Award-Winning Massachusetts Moving Company

We are particularly well suited for customers moving between Cape Cod and the communities our crews serve every day, including Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Newton, Watertown, Waltham, MetroWest and the South Shore.

Common Cape Cod moving routes include:

  • Boston to Cape Cod
  • Cape Cod to Boston
  • Cambridge or Somerville to Cape Cod
  • Brookline or Newton to Cape Cod
  • South Shore to Cape Cod
  • Cape Cod to MetroWest
  • Moves between Cape Cod towns
  • Cape Cod to another Massachusetts destination
  • Storage facility pickups and deliveries
  • Senior moves involving family members in Greater Boston

Some customers are relocating permanently. Others are moving into a second home, downsizing, moving a parent into senior housing, clearing a family property or transporting only part of a household. We recommend the crew and truck based on the actual job rather than forcing every Cape Cod customer into the same package.

Why Cape Cod Moves Require Careful Planning

Bridge Traffic and Route 6 Travel

The Bourne and Sagamore bridges can create major delays, particularly during summer weekends, holiday periods and popular rental turnover dates. Route 6 traffic can add more time after the truck reaches the Cape.

We do not tell customers that they must wait until winter to move. Most people have closing dates, lease deadlines, family obligations and other schedules they cannot change. Instead, we consider the date, departure time, route and expected travel conditions when preparing the moving plan.

An early start may reduce the risk of sitting in traffic before the physical move has even begun. For some jobs, the better plan may be to load the truck the day before delivery or complete the move in stages. The correct approach depends on the inventory, addresses and timing.

Private Roads, Long Driveways and Difficult Truck Access

Cape Cod properties do not all have easy moving-truck access. Some homes have narrow private roads, soft shoulders, low tree branches, sharp turns, limited turnaround space or long driveways that are difficult for a large box truck.

Before quoting the move, please tell us about:

  • Narrow or unpaved roads
  • Low branches or overhead wires
  • Steep, sandy or soft driveways
  • Sharp driveway entrances
  • Limited truck turnaround space
  • Long walks between the truck and the house
  • Stairs, decks and raised entrances
  • Community gates or restricted access
  • Condominium loading rules

Photos and videos are extremely helpful. In some cases, a 16-foot truck is safer and more practical than a larger truck. A smaller truck may require multiple loads, but it can prevent the crew from becoming stuck, damaging a driveway or parking an unsafe distance from the entrance.

Summer and Seasonal Scheduling

Cape Cod moves are often concentrated around the summer season. Rental turnover, home closings, family schedules and heavier traffic can all affect availability.

Book as early as practical for June, July, August and holiday weekends. We may still be able to help with a shorter-notice move, but having flexibility with the date or start time creates more options.

The goal is not to discourage summer moving. The goal is to build enough time into the plan so bridge traffic and seasonal congestion do not turn into an expensive surprise.

Second Homes and Partial Household Moves

Not every Cape Cod move involves the contents of an entire primary residence. We frequently speak with customers who are moving selected furniture, bedroom sets, artwork, patio furniture, exercise equipment or household items between a Greater Boston residence and a Cape home.

These jobs may be appropriate for a smaller truck and crew, particularly when the inventory is clearly documented in advance. Photos allow us to determine whether everything will fit and whether any items require disassembly or additional protection.

Cape Cod Residential and Household Movers

Our household movers can handle full and partial residential moves between Cape Cod and other Massachusetts communities.

Residential moving services can include:

  • Single-family home moves
  • Apartment and condominium moves
  • Second-home relocations
  • Partial household moves
  • Moves into or out of storage
  • Furniture delivery between family properties
  • Estate and property cleanout-related moving
  • Furniture disassembly and reassembly
  • Placement of furniture in the new home

Larger Cape Cod house moves may require a larger crew, a larger truck or multiple trucks. The appropriate plan depends on the inventory, property access, number of floors and distance between the addresses.

Cape Cod Apartment and Condominium Movers

Cape Cod is not made up only of detached houses. We also handle apartment, condominium and senior-community moves.

Condominium associations and managed buildings may require:

  • A Certificate of Insurance
  • An elevator reservation
  • Specific moving hours
  • Protective elevator padding
  • A designated loading area
  • Advance notice to property management

Send us the building’s moving requirements before the move. Waiting until moving morning to discover an elevator restriction or insurance requirement can cause delays.

Senior Movers and Assisted-Living Relocations on Cape Cod

Senior moves often involve much more than transportation. Families may be sorting belongings, downsizing a longtime home, coordinating with an assisted-living community or deciding which furniture will fit in a smaller apartment.

Our senior moving services can help with:

  • Moves into senior and assisted-living communities
  • Downsizing from a house into an apartment
  • Coordination with adult children and caregivers
  • Moving furniture to more than one destination
  • Deliveries to storage or family members
  • Careful placement of furniture in the new residence
  • Certificates of Insurance when required
  • Packing help before moving day

Families do not always live near the person who is moving. We can communicate with the customer, family members and facility staff so everyone understands the plan.

Packing Services for Cape Cod Moves

A long-distance move within Massachusetts becomes much easier when everything is packed and ready before the truck arrives.

Safe Responsible Movers offers full and partial packing services for Cape Cod moves. Packing help can be scheduled before moving day or included as part of a larger moving project.

We can assist with:

  • Full-house packing
  • Kitchen and dish packing
  • Books, artwork and fragile belongings
  • Closets and personal items
  • Partial packing for selected rooms
  • Last-minute packing assistance
  • Labeling boxes by room or destination

Please tell us how much packing is needed when requesting the quote. Packing an entire home requires a different schedule than wrapping a few pictures or finishing the kitchen.

Labor-Only Movers for PODS, Rental Trucks and Storage Containers

Some Cape Cod customers do not need a moving company to provide transportation. You may already have a U-Haul, Penske truck, POD, U-Box, Pack Rat container, U-Pack trailer or storage unit.

Our labor-only movers can provide professional loading or unloading help without supplying the moving truck.

Labor-only services include:

  • Loading rental trucks
  • Unloading rental trucks
  • Loading PODS and portable storage containers
  • Unloading containers at a Cape Cod property
  • Moving furniture within the same home
  • Moving furniture between floors
  • Preparing rooms for renovations
  • Rearranging furniture after a move

When requesting a labor-only quote, tell us the container or truck size, approximate inventory, stairs, walking distance and whether moving blankets are available. Proper loading matters. Poorly loaded furniture can shift, crush boxes or become damaged during transportation.

Cape Cod Office and Commercial Movers

We also provide office and commercial moving services for small and mid-sized businesses.

Commercial moving projects may include:

  • Office furniture
  • Desks and conference tables
  • File cabinets
  • Retail fixtures
  • Restaurant or hospitality equipment
  • Boxes and business records
  • Storage facility moves
  • Internal office rearranging

Business moves may be scheduled in phases to reduce downtime. Please provide an inventory, photos and information about building access at both locations.

Single-Item and Specialty Moving on Cape Cod

You do not need to be moving an entire house to hire Safe Responsible Movers. We offer single-item moving services for furniture and other difficult belongings.

We may be able to help with:

  • Couches and sectionals
  • Bedroom sets
  • Dining tables
  • Large dressers and armoires
  • Peloton bikes and treadmills
  • Exercise equipment
  • First-floor upright and baby grand piano moves
  • Office furniture
  • Furniture purchased through a private sale

Our Peloton movers handle Peloton Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+ and Row equipment. Heavy treadmills may require partial disassembly, additional movers and photos of all staircases and turns.

We also provide limited piano moving services for upright and baby grand pianos with appropriate first-floor access. We do not pretend that every piano move is within our capabilities. Complex piano moves involving interior stairs, cranes or difficult disassembly should be handled by a dedicated piano-moving specialist.

How Much Do Cape Cod Movers Cost?

The cost of a Cape Cod move depends on:

  • Crew size
  • Truck size
  • Total moving time
  • Pickup and delivery towns
  • Amount of furniture and boxes
  • Stairs and elevator access
  • Walking distance from the truck
  • Packing requirements
  • Furniture disassembly
  • Bridge and travel time
  • Private-road and driveway access
  • Whether more than one truck or trip is required

Our current starting rates are:

Crew and TruckStarting RateCommon Uses
Two movers and a 16-foot truck$179 per hour, plus travel feeSmall apartments, partial moves, selected furniture and lighter inventories
Three movers and a 16-foot truck$239 per hour, plus travel feeLarger apartments, smaller homes, stairs, heavier furniture and faster loading
Larger crew or larger truckQuoted for the specific moveFull houses, large inventories, office moves and complicated access

Our moves have a two-hour labor minimum and are billed in 15-minute increments after the minimum. A travel fee covers the crew and truck traveling from our Boston office to the first location and returning after the move.

Cape Cod travel fees vary based on the crew, truck, distance and route. Your written quote will explain the hourly rate, travel fee, minimum and expected charges before you book.

A larger crew has a higher hourly rate, but it may reduce the total number of working hours. Sending too small a crew for a large Cape Cod move can create a very long day and may not be the least expensive option.

Choosing the Right Truck for a Cape Cod Move

The biggest available truck is not automatically the best truck.

A 16-foot truck may be appropriate for:

  • Small apartments
  • Partial household moves
  • Second-home furniture deliveries
  • Properties with narrow roads or driveways
  • Moves involving a limited inventory
  • Single-item and specialty moves

A larger truck may be better for:

  • Full-house moves
  • Large furniture inventories
  • Moves with many boxes
  • Long-distance moves where multiple trips would be inefficient
  • Commercial and office relocations

For difficult properties, we may recommend using a smaller truck, a second truck or a shuttle plan. Send driveway and road photos before the move so we can avoid bringing equipment that cannot safely reach the home.

Cape Cod Towns We Serve

Safe Responsible Movers provides moving services throughout Cape Cod and across Massachusetts. Availability and pricing depend on the date, route, inventory and required crew.

Upper Cape Movers

We provide moving services in Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth and Mashpee.

Upper Cape moves may have shorter travel distances from Greater Boston than Outer Cape moves, but bridge traffic can still have a major effect on scheduling. Some Falmouth-area moves may also involve customers continuing to Martha’s Vineyard, which requires a separate ferry and vehicle plan.

Mid-Cape Movers

Our Mid-Cape service area includes Barnstable, Hyannis, Yarmouth and Dennis.

Mid-Cape moves can involve houses, condominiums, apartment buildings, senior communities, storage facilities and commercial properties. Confirm building rules, loading access and elevator requirements before moving day.

Lower Cape Movers

We serve Harwich, Brewster, Chatham and Orleans.

Lower Cape moves require additional travel beyond the bridges and Mid-Cape area. Seasonal traffic, narrow roads and property access should be considered when selecting the start time and truck.

Outer Cape Movers

Our Outer Cape moving service area includes Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown.

Outer Cape moves involve the longest travel distance from our Boston office. These moves may require an early start, a larger travel fee or a moving plan spread across more than one day, depending on the inventory and addresses.

Provincetown properties can also have particularly limited street and driveway access. Detailed photos and parking information are important before we recommend a truck.

A Recent Massachusetts-to-Wellfleet Move

Safe Responsible Movers recently completed a RAFT-approved move from Fall River to Wellfleet.

The move required more than simply giving the customer an hourly rate. Because the move was being funded through the Massachusetts Residential Assistance for Families in Transition program, we first prepared a detailed flat-rate invoice for review and approval.

We then planned the crew, truck and scheduling around the long in-state route and the customer’s approved funding. The move illustrates the type of Massachusetts-to-Cape Cod relocation we are equipped to handle.

Customers using housing assistance can learn more about our RAFT moving services. RAFT approval must normally be confirmed before the moving job can be officially scheduled.

Moving to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket?

Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket moves require ferry reservations, vehicle planning and different scheduling from a standard Cape Cod move. Rather than filling this page with island information that is not relevant to most Cape Cod customers, we cover those services separately.

Please contact us as early as possible for an island move. Ferry availability and vehicle reservations can determine which dates are workable.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cape Cod Movers

How much does it cost to move from Boston to Cape Cod?

The cost depends on the size of the crew, truck, moving time, Cape Cod destination, inventory, stairs, walking distance and travel requirements. Rates currently start at $179 per hour for two movers and a 16-foot truck, plus a travel fee. A complete Boston-to-Cape move will cost more than a short Boston-area move because of the additional travel time and distance.

Are you based on Cape Cod?

No. Safe Responsible Movers is based in Boston and serves customers throughout Massachusetts. We are particularly well suited for moves between Greater Boston and Cape Cod, as well as Cape Cod moves involving another Massachusetts origin or destination.

Do you handle moves entirely within Cape Cod?

Yes, depending on availability, the move size and the Cape Cod towns involved. Contact us with the addresses, inventory and date so we can determine whether we are the right fit.

Do Cape Cod moves have a travel fee?

Yes. The travel fee covers the crew and truck traveling from our Boston office to the first location and returning after the move. Cape Cod travel fees vary based on the crew, truck and distance. The fee will be clearly stated in your written quote.

How far in advance should I schedule Cape Cod movers?

Schedule as early as practical, especially for June through September, weekends, holiday periods and the end or beginning of the month. We may have shorter-notice availability, but popular dates can fill quickly.

Can you move us during the summer?

Yes. We handle Cape Cod moves during the summer. We may recommend an early start, flexible timing or a multi-day plan to reduce the effect of bridge traffic and long travel times.

Do you provide packing services?

Yes. We provide full and partial packing services, including kitchen packing, fragile-item packing, artwork, books and complete household packing.

Do you handle senior and assisted-living moves?

Yes. We help older adults and their families with downsizing, packing, furniture placement, assisted-living moves, storage deliveries and moves involving more than one destination.

Can you load or unload a POD or rental truck?

Yes. Our labor-only movers can load or unload U-Haul and Penske trucks, PODS, U-Boxes, Pack Rat containers, U-Pack equipment and storage units.

What should I do if my Cape Cod property has a narrow driveway?

Send photos or a video showing the road, driveway entrance, overhead clearance, turnaround area and distance to the house. We may recommend a 16-foot truck, multiple loads or a shuttle plan instead of sending a large truck that cannot safely reach the property.

Do you move to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket?

Yes. Island moves require separate ferry and vehicle planning. Visit our Martha’s Vineyard movers page or our Nantucket movers page for more information.
