We Accept RAFT-Funded Moving Jobs

RAFT is a Massachusetts housing assistance program that can help eligible households remain in their current housing or move into a new home. Moving expenses are among the housing-related costs that may be covered.

RAFT may provide an eligible household with up to $7,000 within a 12-month period. This does not mean that every household will receive $7,000 or that the full amount will be available for moving services.

Your caseworker or administering agency determines:

  • Whether you qualify for RAFT
  • Which moving expenses are eligible
  • How much of the move will be approved
  • What documents must be submitted
  • When and how the moving company will be paid

Safe Responsible Movers does not determine eligibility, approve applications or guarantee funding. Our role is to provide a clear moving quote and invoice based on the actual details of your move.

How to Hire Movers Through RAFT

The process is generally straightforward, but the move cannot be officially scheduled until the required approval has been received.

1. Tell Us About Your Move

Contact us with the addresses, moving date, inventory and access information for your move.

RAFT invoices need to reflect the actual work being requested. A general description such as “one-bedroom apartment” is usually not enough for us to prepare an accurate price. We will follow-up with additional questions before we can create the invoice.

2. We Prepare a Detailed Moving Invoice

Once we understand the complete scope of the move, we prepare an invoice or written quote that you can submit to your RAFT caseworker or administering agency.

The document may include:

  • Moving labor
  • Truck and transportation
  • Travel charges
  • The number of movers required
  • Estimated moving time
  • Packing services, when requested
  • Other approved moving-related services
  • The total proposed cost

The invoice is based on the inventory, addresses and access information you provide.

3. You Submit the Invoice for Approval

You are responsible for submitting our invoice through the process established by your caseworker or regional administering agency.

Approval times vary. Safe Responsible Movers cannot control how quickly an application is reviewed or guarantee that a particular charge will be approved.

You should begin the process as early as possible, especially when you must leave your current home by a specific date.

4. Send Us the Written Approval

When your move is approved, send us the approval notice, payment authorization or other written confirmation supplied by your caseworker.

An initial quote request does not reserve a moving date. Your move is not officially booked until we have received the necessary approval and confirmed the date with you.

5. We Complete the Move

Once everything is approved and scheduled, our professional movers arrive with the truck, moving blankets, dollies, straps and standard equipment needed to complete the approved move.

What We Need to Prepare Your RAFT Moving Invoice

The more complete your information is, the more accurately we can price the move.

Please provide:

  • Your preferred moving date or date range
  • The complete pickup address
  • The complete delivery address
  • The size and type of each home
  • The floor at each location
  • The number of staircases
  • Elevator availability and reservation requirements
  • The distance from the building to the moving truck
  • Parking restrictions or moving permit requirements
  • A complete list of furniture
  • A realistic estimate of the number of boxes
  • Appliances or exercise equipment
  • Heavy, oversized or fragile items
  • Items located in a basement, attic, garage or storage area
  • Furniture that requires disassembly or reassembly
  • Any packing services you want included

Photos and videos can be helpful, but they do not replace a complete written inventory. For larger moves, we may require a video call or in-person walkthrough before preparing the invoice.

Why an Accurate Inventory Is So Important

RAFT generally approves a specific amount based on the quote and scope submitted for review. That makes an accurate inventory especially important.

The moving invoice must account for everything we are expected to move. If the original inventory lists 20 boxes but there are actually 70 boxes on moving day, the approved price may no longer cover the actual job.

The same problem can happen when furniture, basement contents, storage items or heavy objects are left off the original list.

A major change in inventory can affect:

  • The number of movers required
  • The size or number of trucks required
  • The estimated moving time
  • The total cost
  • Whether the move can be completed as approved

Additional labor or transportation may not be covered unless your caseworker approves the revised scope. We cannot guarantee that unlisted items or work outside the approved invoice will be completed.

Before requesting your invoice, walk through every room, closet, basement, attic, porch, garage and storage space. Include everything you expect the movers to handle.

Does RAFT Pay the Full Cost of a Moving Company?

It depends on your individual approval.

Moving expenses can be an eligible use of RAFT funds, but the program does not automatically pay every moving cost. The amount available for your move depends on your eligibility, remaining benefit, documented housing needs and the decision of your administering agency.

Do not assume that a service is covered simply because it appears on a moving quote. Packing, storage, disposal, permits or other additional services should be clearly listed and specifically approved before the move.

Safe Responsible Movers will provide the documentation requested for our moving services, but we cannot promise that RAFT will approve the full invoice.

Frequently Asked Questions About RAFT Movers

Do you accept RAFT payments?

Yes. Safe Responsible Movers accepts moving jobs funded through the Massachusetts RAFT program when the move and payment arrangement have been properly approved.

Can you help me apply for RAFT?

We can prepare a moving invoice for your application, but we do not determine eligibility or complete the housing assistance application for you. Questions about eligibility, application status or required documents should be directed to your caseworker or regional administering agency.

Can you guarantee that RAFT will approve my move?

No. Only the administering agency can approve your application and decide which expenses will be covered.

How quickly can you prepare an invoice?

The time required depends on the size and complexity of the move and whether you have provided complete information. Missing addresses, incomplete inventories and uncertain access conditions can delay the quote. Once we have all the information we need it you’ll get an invoice within 24 hours.

Can I reserve a moving date before RAFT approves the invoice?

We can discuss potential availability, but the date is not officially reserved until the move has been approved and confirmed with our office. Availability can change while an application is under review.

Does RAFT cover packing services?

Packing may be eligible in some circumstances, but it must be included in our invoice and approved by your caseworker or administering agency. Do not assume packing materials or packing labor will be covered unless they appear in the written approval.

What happens if I have more belongings on moving day?

A substantially larger inventory can require additional time, movers or truck capacity. Costs outside the approved invoice may not be covered. In some cases, we may not be able to move unlisted items or complete the expanded job without revised approval.

Do I need moving permits?

Some Massachusetts cities require moving permits or temporary parking restrictions. A permit reserves a safe, legal and accessible parking space for the moving truck. Tell us about parking conditions when requesting your invoice so any necessary arrangements can be discussed in advance.

Can my caseworker contact you directly?

Yes. A caseworker or administering agency may contact Safe Responsible Movers if they need clarification about our invoice, services or business information.

Request a RAFT Moving Invoice

To request an invoice, contact Safe Responsible Movers with your moving date, both addresses, complete inventory, estimated box count and access information.

Please do not wait until the last minute. Preparing the invoice is only the first step, and RAFT approval can take time.

Call or text 617-606-9098 or complete our quote form to begin.

Safe Responsible Movers can provide the professional moving service and documentation needed for an approved RAFT move, while your caseworker or administering agency handles eligibility and funding decisions.
