Cambridge Moving Permits
Cambridge Moving Permits Made Easy
How to get Cambridge Moving Permits
Looking for Cambridge Moving Permits? It’s actually incredibly easy. You just fill out the city’s easy online form and the city will actually post them for you! In congested urban area like Cambridge it can be difficult to find a space to park a large moving truck, so it’s generally a good idea to get a moving permit and tow zone signs to prevent any hassle on moving day. Your Cambridge movers will thank you!
The only requirement is that you fill out the form a full seven calendar days BEFORE your scheduled move.
Like in other cities, you can’t post Cambridge Moving Permits opposite driveways, within ten feet of fire hydrants, in handicapped spots or in otherwise illegal parking spots.
For more information, you can read the city’s full description of the permitting process here.
As in other cities, in Cambridge a standard moving truck requires forty feet of clearance and cost you $35.00, unless there are meters in the space you’re looking to reserve. If that’s the case, the meters will cost an extra ten bucks apiece. The city even has a tool to find the exact meter numbers that any given address would need to block off.
If you’re using a stationary container or crate instead of a moving truck for your move, the city of Cambridge has different permitting process. Information on how to reserve a spot for a container or crate can be found here.
Do I Really Need Cambridge Moving Permits?
Depending on where you need a moving truck to park, permits may not be necessary. If you live in a building with an elevator and a loading dock, you probably don’t need to pay for permits. However, it’s always a good idea to ask your building manager. Of course, if you live in a tightly packed area like Harvard Square, moving permits are probably a good idea. If you’re not sure, ask your moving company. They should have a pretty good idea.
We’re happy to reserve spots on your behalf in Somerville, Brookline, or Boston. However, for Cambridge moving permits, you can just fill out the form on the city’s website and let the transportation department take over. It only takes a few minutes and the city does all (or most of) the work for you. Consequently, in Cambridge there isn’t much of a need for this service.
