What to do before Moving – Declutter!

by | Mar 8, 2024

Decluttering is what to do before moving!

We think our moving tips are the best you can find on the internet. However, we’re also honest. And, honestly, we don’t have as much content as we should about what to do before moving.

So, when we see some useful advice about getting ready to move, we try to share it. Such is the case with a recent how-to article up on The Spruce. Written by Rabekah Henderson, it’s very accurately titled “The Ultimate Guide to Decluttering Before Moving.”

What makes this guide “ultimate,” claims the sub-headline, that this guide is prepared “According to Experts.” Those experts seem to all have their own organizing companies, and the article is all click-based and each paragraph has its own business plan. Sure. That all may be true — but that’s fine! That’s how the internet works as long as the front-facing content is still useful, we’re happy to have it. And this is a very useful article. Seriously. If you’re moving, you should read it.

The 20/20 Rule for What to do Before Moving

This little nugget is incredibly useful. Says Henderson, ” If you come across an item in your home that you’re not using, and it takes less than 20 minutes and $20 to replace, get rid of it.” We can’t agree more emphatically. Co-sign. Yes. Whatever the kids say. Henderson is 100% correct here — Don’t pay movers to move stuff you don’t want and/or don’t use. It’s a waste of money. We try to be cheap movers compared to the others. But, of course, we’re not free. So if you’re on your third set of plates but you’ve got the first and second sets tucked away neatly in the basement, maybe it’s time for a trip to the old Goodwill.
