So you’ve decided to hire movers. Great! (We hope you made the right choice and hired Safe Responsible for your move, of course.) You’ve provided a detailed inventory to the movers. Fantastic! It’s super important that the movers know what kinds of items and how many of them you’re expecting to have moved. You’ve given the movers an accurate count of boxes, the sizes of the different beds, mattresses, and box springs. All the good stuff. And then you list the outdoor stuff — some patio chairs, a table, maybe a plastic bin or two, and your most prized outdoor possession — your Propane Grill.
No problem — these are all items that movers have no issue taking in the truck, with one exception. We can take the grill. But under no circumstances can we take the propane tank. Why not? It’s not that big, it’s not that heavy, you might think. True, but it’s also not that legal. And for good reason. Propane tanks, even when empty, can only be transported while accessible and visible to the driver. So the back of a moving truck isn’t a good spot for them.
The reason — it’s explosive! It’s very, very dangerous to move explosive items in a box truck. And, as mentioned above, it’s illegal. So we don’t do it, and neither does any other reputable moving company. It’s just not a risk worth taking. So if you have a propane tank as part of your move, you’ll need to take in your own vehicle or find an alternative transport method. That’s true for full and empty tanks. But the grill, with the propane disconnected, is absolutely fine.
